now, everyone with 600 or more followers can host a Space.
based on what we've learned, these accounts are likely to have a good experience hosting because of their existing audience. before bringing the ability to create a Space to everyone, we’re focused on a few things. 🧵
we wanted to bring important convos happening IRL at
#SXSW
to the timeline and show up for our Spaces community
here’s a look back on the Spaces we hosted this weekend with Hosts you know and some new to Spaces
starting our day with some inspiring women! listen in to hear how these women pulled up a seat at the table and use Spaces to further their voice
#SheInspiresMe
the time has arrived -- we’re now rolling out the ability for everyone on iOS and Android to host a Space
if this is your first time hosting, welcome! here’s a refresher on how
Heads up that we’re doing some maintenance on our infrastructure to help us handle bigger Spaces! There may be some minor turbulence in the next day or so as we flip some switches and turn some knobs. Thanks for hanging with us!
starting today, spaces will be available on (mobile web, desktop web)
our focus areas:
- infrastructure and listening UI that adapts to your screen size
- setting reminders for scheduled spaces
- accessibility and transcriptions
Android folks, our beta is growing! starting today you will be able to join and talk in any Space. SOON you’ll be able to create your own but we’re still working out some things. keep your 👀 out for live Spaces above your home tl
Ticketed Spaces: we’re working on a way for hosts to be rewarded for the experiences they create and for listeners to have exclusive access to the convos they care about most. soon, we’ll test ticketed Spaces with a small group where hosts can set ticket prices and quantity
then join

we created Spaces to bring people together in an intimate way to share thoughts and tweets with the power that only the human voice can bring. Spaces is now available to millions of people but the work is not finished bc it is part of a bigger vision built with you, our community
we're focused on learning more, making it easier to discover Spaces, and helping everyone enjoy them with an engaged audience. here are some features we're working on:
- Ticketed Spaces
- Co-hosting
- Scheduling
- More block labels + warnings
- Improved captions
new feature alert 🎉 we want to make it as simple as possible to join the best, most relevant audio conversations every time you open Twitter. starting today, we will be testing a new way to find Spaces––we're adding a tab!
good news: hosts can now schedule a Space for later. don’t worry about setting an alarm, hosts will receive two notifs: a 30 min reminder and a second one at the start time.
🔴 REC has started
one feature you’ve been asking for is Spaces Recording and the ability to replay. Some hosts on iOS will now be able to record their Spaces and share it out to their audience.
To everyone who has DM’d, tweeted: we appreciate you.
Thank you for offering to help us learn & grow. We will be slowly growing the group in the coming weeks — if you are interested in joining our feedback group, please sign up here:

Co-hosting: sometimes, it’s fun to host a Space with other people. or you may want help selecting people to speak. soon, you’ll have the ability to choose up to two other people to manage participants and info about the Space, such as the title and description.
today, more people can use ticketed Spaces! all approved Hosts can now set ticket prices & audience size for Spaces
if you’ve been approved, you’ll see an in-app notif letting you know. Ticketed Spaces Hosts, send us your feedback!
making it easier to manage your Space…introducing co-hosting!
- hosts have two co-host invites they can send
- the table just got bigger: 1 host, 2 co-hosts, and 10 speakers
- co-hosts can help invite speakers, manage requests, remove participants, pin Tweets and more!
we’re excited to keep growing our community. you may notice more hosts starting spaces and creating lasting conversations. we look forward to learning from you all 🙌🏽
as excitement for spaces grow, so have audiences. stay tuned for an early fix to the infamous "+N" coming out soon
we appreciate all of you as we continue to build together
right now, everyone can listen to Spaces on iOS or Android and we're adding the ability to host for more people every day.

good news, today we’re starting to test a new Spaces Tab
even better news, it includes podcasts, themed audio stations, and (of course) recorded + live Spaces
we learned that more control is needed in Spaces
on both iOS & Android, hosts will now be able to remove any pinned tweets in their Spaces while speakers will have the ability to take down their own shared tweets
we're continuing to listen & learn. let us know what you think
we’re experimenting with ways to help you discover more Spaces. for some of you on iOS and android, if someone you follow is listening to a Space, you’ll see it at the top of your tl.
you can control who can see your listening activity in your settings.
send us your thoughts!
something fun & playful our team has been working on. what are *creative* ways we can utilize voice for more engaging convos on Spaces? how would you use these tools?
let’s have fun & learn together🧏🏽♂️

ever wish you could capture a moment from a Space? great because we’re testing clipping!
certain Hosts on iOS can now clip 30 seconds of audio from recorded Spaces to share, everyone on iOS can see & listen to clips on the Timeline—coming to Android and web real soon
we’re updating “transcriptions” to “captions”. we noticed folks using these terms in different ways, so we checked in with our accessibility experts to help us get it right.
to sum up:
captions = text shown while someone speaks
transcriptions = after-the-fact written record

improving co-hosting is one of our top priorities, so here's what we're working on:
- 2 co-hosts in addition to speakers and host
- the ability to speak, pin tweets, and approve/invite/remove speakers!
we hope this will make managing the conversations in the Spaces easier!

show you want to speak without interrupting someone else. starting from today anyone on stage — speakers, hosts and co-hosts — will have a raised hand emoji 🖐
unlike other reaction emojis, which disappear, the raised hand stays persistent until you lower it or unmute.
now on iOS, it’s easier to see and join a Space while you’re scrolling
if you see a purple glow around someone’s avi on your tl, tap in.
rolling out to most iOS users today!
we want to help people creating cool Spaces make $$$. today, some Hosts will be able create Ticketed Spaces!

we know crashes are frustrating so if you experience one, you’re now able to reconnect (within 2 minutes!) while keeping your audience in the room. thanks for working with us!
Data about participants and speakers in Spaces may not show correctly for the next day or so while we do some behind the scenes maintenance. Appreciate your patience!

today we’ve opened up to another small group of folks to try out Spaces & we’re excited to hear their feedback (literally!)
if you don’t have the feature yet, don’t worry! we’re still learning and will continue to add more of you over time
we’re testing a feature you’ve been asking for
when some Hosts start a Space, a Space card will be sent as a Tweet so listeners can reply, engage, and share…straight from the Space! we hope it makes it easier to see and participate in the convo. now testing on iOS and Android!
