Well Sam decided to give us a scare and stop breathing. Did CPR until the ambulance showed up and cleared him out with some suction. At the ER. Chest x-ray looks good.

SAM PATRICK W. UPDATE: Little guy is doing fantastic. Off all painkillers besides occasional Tylenol. Has had his last dose of antibiotics from this procedure. Had to get another IV put on because they lost a line but he's good. Other positive news as well.
Thanks everyone for your prayers and messages. They're clearly working!

Sam update for the night: had to take the day off work unpaid but got to talk to doctors and feel much better about where Sam is at and the plan going forward.
Was a little shocked by the developments! Mostly positive. On the path home. If you want details you can DM me.

Sam's going down to surgery again, just about half an hour this time. Not nearly as scary but I still hate to have him go through another one. Just waiting on the nurses to transport. If you're the praying type we sure would appreciate it..
We've been doing better, hoping this continues to improve. Coming off one medicine, less irritable overall. He had a Atrovent treatment, think it's helping.
Sam is scheduled for a gastro tube placement Thursday morning.

Suppose I should post a Sam update: they still can't find anything really wrong with him or any cause behind the breathing issue. He's been improving, slowly, in the hospital. Sounds like we're going home with a bunch of equipment.
Pray for my wife, that she'll be able to sleep.

Alright, here's your Sam update of the day™: they gave him a little caffeine and he's been awake and calm. No breathing pauses today which is nice. Swallow test under x-ray gave us a lead to track down. Feels nice to maybe have an answer and solution!

Feel like we went backwards today. More breathing pauses, more suctioning, still no answers. Very frustrating.

Big day coming up. After another trial run tonight they're going to try and extubate Sam tomorrow morning. Kinda nervous, praying for the best.
Okay so the MRI came back clean - all normal. Which is good. But also frustrating. No answers as to what is wrong or why Sam stopped breathing.

Apparently Sam is at an elevated risk to stop breathing before that shunt gets placed. Not that I'm worried, but I'm upset that I was only told after ranting to a doctor about still being here. The communication here has not been stellar.
Sounds like surgery to place the VP shunt will be Tuesday (subject to change) hoping we can go home Wednesday or Thursday. Sam is still doing great, even if he didn't want us to sleep last night.
