[DAY 1] First thing I took care of is design, so that going into storyboarding I could have a clear reference for characters, keeping sizes consistent and making it easier for the animation step. Puppet rigs were made early on, even though I ended up tweaking them later!
In the following couple weeks I'll be posting fun facts, insights and little behind the scene content and how some animations and shots were handled!

[DAY 7] The Storyboard/Animatic was made with a certain workflow in mind. A lot of the shots are essentially already a full Layout, complete with camera movements and effects. Some shots even have fully established and timed rough animation!

[DAY 3] When it came to storyboard/animatic I basically merged the two steps and made it a Smart Layout. For this kind of scenes, for example, the camera/parallax and character motion was established prior, so I just had to go back and replace the sketches with the final assets!

[DAY 5] Did you know? The forest was actually just made with a single tree asset! This asset contains 8 variations which are randomized in scale and flip to achieve what's essentially a modular 2D Forest. This was possible thanks to my proprietary plug-in ChaosTheory! Demos soon!
[DAY 4] These are some of the of corrections and structural guidelines I've made for the video- Unfortunately time didn't allow to really make a set of style rules, so we had to wing it sometimes.

[DAY 8] The burning forest was achieved with just a few simple fire cycles. I decided to go for a modular approach - Made the compiling much much easier!

I use Rigs but they’re constantly treated with hand drawn parts and extended depending on the scene. I call them hybrids. Been doing that for years!
I’ve been stiving to make Puppet Animation look as good as possible with my current resources. I hope the result will be enjoyed!
Quick reminder since some peeps are doing that tired "hand-drawn > rigs" thing again.
We all have preferences but hand-drawn isnt the end-all be-all of animation. Some of modern-day's most highly-praised or beloved animations use rigged puppets w/ varying degrees of movement.
