I wish the discourse on why America got steamrolled by this virus was a little less "people going out and having fun" and a little more "this country has no paid sick leave, our health care is a disaster, and the GOP isn't the only party prioritizing the economy"

After capturing it days ago, the IDF has now blown up the chambers of the Palestinian Legislative Council, Gaza's de facto parliament, in a controlled demolition. The previous, original building had also been destroyed by Israeli airstrikes in 2009.

The basic (colonial) double standard of the Israel Palestine "conflict" is that any Palestinian violence justifies any Israeli violence, but no Israeli violence ever justifies any Palestinian violence, and once you see it, you'll never stop seeing it.

A lot of times, when people say "from the river to the sea, Palestine will be free," they mean that Palestinians will be free of colonial violence in their geographically-defined, historic homeland, and the way you can tell they mean that is by considering what words mean

Just a reminder that in 2018, Palestinians in Gaza mounted the Great March of Return to show the world their plight. Day after day, they walked, unarmed, to Israel's military fences around Gaza. Israel shot 8,000 with live ammunition, killed 220 Palestinians. 36,143 total injured

Me, watching Dune a second time, shaking my head so everyone knows I'm not enjoying Frank Herbert's reactionary refusal of progressive futurism and fatalistic embrace of villainy that is a proxy for the desire to do atrocity:

If you think politicians carry the burden of a public trust--that they are only empowered by the democratic will to represent the people--then the whole situation gets really simple!

This is worth pointing out because it's not an accident, or an unconscious tic; this is a focus-grouped strategy, a conscious decision made not to alienate "pro-life" voters. The GOP does not worry about that, because they actually want to do the things they say they want to do.

It feels superfluous to even say it, but the speed with which we have gotten to "we have closed the campus so that the protesters can no longer impair the normal functioning of the campus" is amazing

They picked their team at a time when that team tried to pretend to be defensible. Today their team has think tanks putting out reports on how 2 million people can be shoved into the desert.

Every once in a while I remember that the GOP Speaker of the House (1999 - 2007) was convicted of sexually abusing multiple boys he had been coaching, and marvel at how people really don't talk about that very much.

it's very easy to tell when people mean "a specific patriarchal and white cultural formation" when they say "working class," versus when they mean "people who sell their labor to survive because they do not have capital"
