The author of the Quran thought Christians believe God took a son (18:4; 19:35). He also thought that we worship Mary as a goddess (5:116) and that we worship three gods (5:73; 5:116). I consider these to be clear proofs that the Quran was not the work of an all-knowing being.

I went to the most reverent Novus Ordo that I’ve ever experienced last night. The gospel was sung instead of read, Latin incorporated throughout, ad orientem, a paten, six altar servers, etc. Let this be a sobering reminder that it’s not the Novus Ordo that’s the problem.

The first point is papal supremacy, which was not the result of some power play of the 9th century. Consider the 5th century pope, Leo the Great. Catholic and non-Catholic scholars alike agree that he made claims of supremacy:

Remember, Pope Leo is a saint in the Eastern Orthodox Church. So either the Eastern Orthodox venerate a public heretic… or supremacy is not heresy. But if supremacy is not heresy, and is in fact orthodox doctrine, then the Eastern Orthodox deny orthodox doctrine.

The concepts underpinning the Catholic understanding of "Papal Supremacy" are widely acknowledged as being pre-schism in origin; claimed and taught by some of the greatest fathers in history. This thread will explore that consensus in regards to one in particular: Pope Leo I 🧵

Third Constantinople, a council which Eastern Orthodox are bound to accept, approved and received an epistle from Pope Agatho which specifically said that Rome would always be indefectible:

The second claim, that Rome will always be orthodox, is explicitly stated at least once and alluded to elsewhere in the document. This is part of the reason why I originally said I’ve never heard a satisfactory Orthodox response to this Council-approved letter.

This is significant because the original iteration of the Nicene Creed was not the one the EO recite today. They use the iteration defined at the Council of Constantinople, which added a massive amount of additional content. Here is a side-by-side comparison:

Hey Josh, remember that time when Antioch came into communion with Rome so the Patriarch of Constantinople installed a parallel hierarchy and relentlessly persecuted the Melkite Catholics with help from the Ottomans?

But we have the fullness of faith. Pre-schism Popes were clear that the Apostolic See (Rome), founded upon Peter’s confession and strengthened through his intercession, could not fall to heresy. This teaching saw indirect approval by the Third Council of Constantinople.

My Roman Catholic friends and family, you deserve better, and can have better. You can have the fullness of the unadulterated #orthodox faith. Truth exists and needs no updating. What was truth yesterday remains true today!

Anyway, the inclusion of the Filioque does the exact same thing, and is no more of a change to the Nicene Creed than Constantinople’s additions (that is to say, it is not a change).

This is supported by the Council of Chalcedon (below), who says that Constantinople’s additions were acceptable seeing as nothing heretical was introduced and it simply amounted to mere clarification about the Holy Spirit against those who opposed the orthodox understanding:

The Council of Hatfield, one of the earliest and most important Anglo-Saxon Christian synods, confessed the Filioque in the Nicene creed @NickGriffinBU This claim of “Eastern Orthodoxy being the faith of the English fathers” is utter and demonstrable rubbish.
