The presidency is being decided in:
- Detroit = 79% Black
- Atlanta = 52% Black
- Philly = 42% Black
- Milwaukee = 39% Black
Underestimate us if you want to, but we have proven our power time and time again.
Pictures of nearly one in every six athletes in a study of 188 were falsely matched with mugshots by Amazon’s facial recognition technology. More proof of what we already know: this technology has bias baked into its coding and has no place in public housing or law enforcement.
Elon Musk fired the entire team that identified that the Twitter algorithm amplifies right-wing voices over others.
Not the first time we have seen staff — particularly Black employees — punished for flagging how their company's products enable & amplify racism.

Met with Mark Zuckerberg and
@Facebook
leadership today. It was a disappointment. They have had our demands for years and yet it is abundantly clear that they are not yet ready to address the vitriolic hate on their platform.
2 years ago today, Botham Jean was eating ice cream in his own home when he was killed. His murderer said she thought it was her house and that he was a burglar. For him, we fight a system that casts us as intruders in our own homes and allows Black lives to be taken senselessly.
.
@Kaepernick7
kneeled for the first time two years ago today. Through blacklisting and attacks from the far-right, including the President himself, Kap has been resilient. Thank you for starting the conversation
Every attempt by the
@NFL
to rehabilitate its image among Black viewers will ring hollow as long as Kaepernick is still unsigned to an NFL team. You cannot co-opt his message and blackball him at the same time.
#SuperBowl
What DeJoy is doing to the USPS is what many from the GOP would like to do to many of our institutions:
1. Run them like a private corporation & run them into the ground
2. Say public benefits don't work + privatize
3. Deny access to Black, brown, low-income and rural communities
I don’t know who needs to hear this but Trump officials shouldn't be able to rehabilitate their reputations just bc they resigned two weeks before his term is over or put out a milquetoast statement.
The media has a responsibility to name them as the violent enablers they are.
Let's not overlook the huge win in California tonight for voting rights. Prop 17 passed, meaning parolees have their right to vote restored. With this vote, the people of CA have re-enfranchised nearly 50K voters.

This is white supremacy, period. A blatant and disgusting attempt to strip Black athletes of their voice and reduce them to a number on a jersey -- all while continuing to profit off of their bodies.
Tonight proves once again that Black voters have the power to swing elections for progressive causes. It’s time for a new era for Democrats where our voices dictate this party's vision. We are not just your votes, we will make our voices heard

Ahmaud Arbery's murder was premeditated. His killers chased him down the street knowing their whiteness, their claims of self-defense and their status in law enforcement would absolve them. This is the deadly outcome of systemic racism.

Let’s focus on our victories. Regina King. Spike Lee. Hannah Beachler. Ruth E. Carter. Black Panther. Cicely Tyson. Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse. Alfonso Cuarón. Roma.

This week has been difficult and sad. Anthony Bourdain was an incredible storyteller who was one of the few white celebrities who didn’t talk about food from a place of privilege. He talked about restaurant workers’ rights, immigrant rights, politics, and human rights. RIP Tony.
It’s time to start thanking Black women when we honor those who sacrificed for our country. Far too often they get left out. This is progress, and I’m happy to see it
Final thought for tonight re

, and specifically, these Truvada commercials: Truvada costs $6 to manufacture, but Gilead Sciences charges $1600 for this medication. We must hold corporations accountable for making life-saving medicines unaffordable for so many.
As usual, the right wing isn’t fighting for fairness. They’re fighting to rig the rules in their own favor. That's what Twitter used to give them — and still does — by amplifying their content more than others.
Today's the anniversary of Alton Sterling’s murder. Tomorrow, Philando Castile. Next week, Sandra Bland, and the week after that Eric Garner. Rest in power to all those we’ve lost to a corrupt justice system. It's time to end this cycle of police violence against our community.
John Burr had 17 years of his life stolen from him. Detective Louis Scarcella has had multiple cases overturned. He reflects the NYPD culture to convict Black people first and think later.
We just voted out the DA who let Mike Brown’s killer walk free. He was a SEVEN term incumbment. Congrats
@Bell4STL

Thank you to COC members and volunteers who sent texts, knocked on doors, made phone calls. Together, we reached more than 210K Black voters in St Louis County
Trump created this crisis. He doesn't need an Executive Order to end his own practices. His 'zero tolerance' policy is still in play. We need to call out the corporations that are enabling and profiting off of his deportation and detention machine.
R. Kelly maintains a record deal with RCA. He even inked a contract last year to play MSG. He has not faced real consequences from corporate interests or justice systems. It's time for R. Kelly and his enablers to be held accountable.

BREAKING: Cyntoia Brown was just granted clemency from a life sentence in prison for killing a man who bought her for sex when she was 16.
She'll be released on parole supervision on August 7.
On this day in 2014, Michael Brown was murdered by a police officer who was never charged. His death ignited nationwide protests and propelled a new generation of activists in Ferguson and across the country to continue the fight until justice is real.
Candace Owens had no place at today’s hearing on fighting white supremacy on tech platforms, not only because she's unqualified, but also because her presence was counterproductive to its purpose. Her testimony was a gift to white nationalists, perpetuating countless racist lies.
White supremacy has always sought out a diverse group of validators. I’m mad I even have to know who Candace Owens is, and I’m even more mad that # of Twitter followers is her only criteria to have this platform
Candidates were warned not to swear during this debate, but an ad that clearly incites animosity and violence toward a sitting Congresswoman was apparently no issue. Media corporations are responsible for how they choose to profit, period.

This is not democracy. This is an attempt to erase the voices of millions of Black voters who vote infrequently, all to benefit the few in power. A decision like this will only encourage states to continue pursuing racist voter laws.

Breaking: In 5-4 decision Alito reverses 6th circuit & upholds Ohio's purging of infrequent voters. Ohio has purged 2 million voters since 2011, more than any other state. Black voters 2x as likely as whites to be purged in state's largest counties
“Blue lives matter” was never about supporting police or keeping the peace. It’s always been about upholding white supremacy. Here’s your proof. And it’s up to the media to name the real threat - white supremacist terrorists, not Black people protesting for justice.

“Home For The Holidays” is shining much needed light on the water crisis in Black communities. Water is life, and our kids shouldn’t get poisoned by policy. Fight for families like DaJayla’s here:
At least six shots were fired for the “crime” of sleeping in his car while Black. Why were six police officers necessary to deal with this? In what world was a man they startled awake a threat? I stand with Willie McCoy’s family in demanding justice for this senseless brutality.
By speaking out about her own struggle with depression,

Our criminal legal system is so hellbent on doling out punishment to Black kids in court, that even in the height of a deadly pandemic, Grace was sent to a jail facility where she’s now at a higher risk of contracting and dying from COVID-19.
DC's population is 44.53% Black. And that is why DC’s nearly 700k residents have been robbed of political power and autonomous representation for so long. Don’t get it twisted.

A large coalition of political/social activist groups agreed not to try to kill Twitter by starving us of advertising revenue if I agreed to this condition.
They broke the deal.
I'm disappointed but not at all surprised
Kyle Rittenhouse went to an active protest with an AR because he wanted conflict. He found it, and he killed people. And because the American justice system wants people like him to be able to do things like this, he now walks free.
After pressure from

Seven hours of labor without medication or seeing a doctor. Every single person who ignored her cries for help is unfit to be responsible for the safety of Black women.

Black women face the highest infant mortality rates in the US -- making them even more susceptible to criminalization for miscarriage and stillbirth. We can't afford to let incarceration be another reason to avoid seeking medical care.
Abortion bans put pregnant people's lives at risk. We know Black women, trans & gender-nonconforming folks are particularly vulnerable & disproportionately criminalized. DAs have the power to refuse to enforce abortion bans. Demand DAs

We’re not “taking democracy back.” Because going “back” means going back to a past where Black people were not included in democracy. We’re taking democracy forward and taking down the barriers to political participation and power.
We pressed Facebook to make a safer platform, they pulled tactics from the white nationalist playbook. That Facebook would do this is deeply troubling. Despite these attacks, we're going to keep holding them accountable

North Carolina's stated reason for shutting down Sunday voting was that counties with heavy Sunday voting were disproportionately African-American, and that African-Americans tended to be Democrats.

Philando Castile was a cafeteria supervisor at a St. Paul school until he was murdered by a police officer almost three years ago, where he would pay for kids’ lunches out of pocket rather than let them go hungry. No kid should have to go hungry at school.
