Adding: one very strange dynamic is that in the US, hostages are perceived as a right wing issue. In Israel it's the opposite. The families have been protesting Netanyahu, who doesn't care about their lives. It's the protests of these families that brought the deal/ceasefire.

Jews have had massive, nasty fights since pretty much the beginning about ritual, politics, basically everything. Personally, there are many Jews on the far right & left whose beliefs & actions I find repugnant. It's fine to argue about positions. But we're all still Jews.
