An unprecedented celebration tonight but looking at the National scenes of those large crowds, I hope anyone who celebrated in a crowd tonight limits their contacts for the next 2 weeks. Remember our first job is to fight this pandemic, united... as a country!
How does one describe the realization of a lifelong dream? After riding the waves of employed cardiology, I will be opening my own Cardiology private practice on July 1! Words can’t describe this feeling...
I am heartbroken today with the loss of my dear friend from residency Vascular Surgeon Dr. Jeff Mathew. Your fight with cancer embodied everything you represented in life - humility, strength, and perseverance. Jeff you will be so missed!
I am so excited to be the new 9Health/9News NBC Denver on-air medical expert! Can’t wait to educate, innovate and inspire better health in the Colorado community I love so much!

Got a call just now from a family friend who is 72 years old with a history of heart disease and has a fever and cough after recent travel to Phoenix where community spread has been documented! He was denied

So saddened to hear about the loss of a friend from growing up by suicide. I just saw her one year ago at a friends wedding and had the best conversation. You can never tell what’s behind the face we wear for others. We don’t know any one’s struggles. Let’s be kind to each other.
Picnic in Cheesman Park with two fully vaccinated physician friends today in 80 degree weather. Could not be a better way to celebrate the rebirth of Spring and the miracle of the vaccines.
Explain something to me... how can we socially distance while getting our nails or hair done or at the barber? Masks don’t replace social distancing.. we have heard that many times. So why do these governors keep saying “we can still keep socially distancing after we open”
I called this woman who claims she doesn't wear a mask because of a medical condition. I asked her what that condition is and she first told me it was illegal for me to ask under ADA. Then she claims she has anxiety.

Found an old iPad today... after nearly 500 different passcode tries (and being locked out for hours), I was finally able to get in and took a nice trip down memory lane with some very old photos that were somehow not in my cloud.

Colorado Gov. Polis said that a man who's presumptively positive for COVID-19 wasn't showing symptoms when he flew to Denver, so it's possible he wasn't contagious then.

Patients… before you get angry at your doctor, have you ever stopped to think your doctor is always your best advocate? He/she is always on your team! He/she advocates for you with insurance companies, pharmaceutical companies, hospitals… everyone. Remember that always…
We take care of our patients for years. Worry about them, care about them. And somewhere along they way, they become our family. So losing them feels just like losing a family member. Today, I’m heartbroken to have lost a member of my family… 💔
Having a birthday on the winter solstice made me pause and reflect on something today:
The winter solstice is the shortest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere but the longest in the Southern. So, maybe life is really all about perspective and which way you see it!
Heart month is only a day away. ❤️ Did you know that February was proclaimed American Heart Month to raise awareness of heart disease was in 1963 under President Lyndon B. Johnson? Can you believe it’s a 57-year-old tradition!!

Had so much fun being a tourist today in
#NYC
visiting Statue of Liberty with my 4 year old nephew. I was reminded of my own roots. A fateful day our family crossed the ocean to move to the US when I was only 9. Grateful for the opportunities given to me and my family!
Can you believe this?! I put my coffee in the fridge in the break room (because it’s been unseasonably hot in Denver and I didn’t want the milk to be sitting out). I came back 2 hours later to drink it… gone. Who would steal someone else’s half drunk coffee during a pandemic?
As we all reflect on everything we have to be thankful for, including the vaccines and their ability to allow for family gatherings, let’s not forget to remember all those family members we lost to COVID during the pandemic.
Grocery pickup for the 1st time...NOT impressed! Person delivering was not wearing a mask/gloves, stood <6 ft away to me to put groceries in car, didn't get half of what I ordered! Is it really safer to have a stranger doing your shopping or should you do it yourself with PPE?
After spending just one week with my 4 year old nephew and newborn niece, I have newfound respect for my mom as well as working parents everywhere!

While statins – a lipid-lowering medication for those who are at high risk of heart disease – work for some, they don’t work for all. As physicians, it’s our responsibility to listen to patients when they share that they aren’t tolerating a medication well.
@nationallipid
Human psychology is so interesting, isn't it? The more we tell ourselves how hard it is right now, the harder it feels! Let's try the opposite... focusing on the positives of how social distancing is saving lives everyday and giving us a moment to slow down from our busy lives.

Since I’m traveling for work every week, I have decided to write about all the weird things I see people doing on planes. Today… a woman was cutting her fingernails and putting the nail clippings into her purse. Ew!
Why do people forget all manners on a plane? Plane etiquette people… if you are the middle seat person… please keep your legs and thighs in your own section! Not ok to encroach into someone else’s space just because they take up less room than you.
A patient told me today that a Colorado hospital system/health system charged $34,000 to Medicare for a test that should be < $1000.

maybe you ought to cover this egregious lack of price transparency and creation of monopolies driving up healthcare costs.
I always think of my patients like family. Today, I was reminded that we become part of their family too. The kids of a special patient wrote and performed for me a song, complete with custom lyrics. So touching and heartwarming. Makes all those long hours totally worth it!

despite being a physician myself. Can’t even imagine what those who don’t know how to navigate the medical system manage. We have to do better.

with the statewide Colorado mask mandate! To me, masks represent our freedom to continue to go about our lives, our solidarity during this crisis, our respect for each other and a sign of wellness by reducing disease spread. What do masks represent to you?
How is differential pricing legal for insurance companies to do? Shouldn’t two cardiologists doing the same work in the same area he paid at the same rate? The rate should not vary based on connections or who is in whose pocket! Do you agree?
Today is my last day in-person at the

Spent the whole sunny Colorado Saturday indoors today reviewing papers on SCAD and Novel Therapies on Cardiovascular Arian Reduction. Anyone really jealous?
I love Saturday mornings - They are my favorite time of the week! Saturday mornings are a quiet time to slow down and reflect on the prior week and the weekend ahead is a blank slate full of possibilities.

Some patients have been lying about being immunocompromised so they can go and get a booster shot now. Remember to follow the science…FDA is still reviewing the data so even though we are anxious to protect ourselves we need to be sure we don’t put the cart before the horse.
The best part of a meeting? Coming back home utterly exhausted with lots of new knowledge, memories of time spent with colleagues/friends and excitement about applying new knowledge to my practice. Thank you

A little heartbroken. During the journey of medical school, we all came to learn to be be healers. Now hearing that one of these healers, a friend from medical school who I adored and respected, who dedicated her career to being an oncologist with metastatic colon cancer herself.
Went to get my flu shot at Kaiser Franklin. 10 people in line. Not moving for 20 min. Some left because of frustration. We have to do better! Making vaccines accessible at a time like this is of utmost priority!
Have you ever been so tired while brushing your teeth at night that you forgot it was night, thought it was morning and started taking a shower and getting dressed for work?
