Sekou was my colleague, and my friend, but most of all he was my brother. I will miss him dearly, but will also remain thankful for all the great times we had together. Love you forever, man. 💙
Today was supposed to be
@SekouSmithNBA
49th birthday. I would have posted on social media, like I did every year, publicly wishing Sekou a happy 60th or 70th birthday, some random outlandish number.

FWIW It helps to watch with subtitles on. I started after my son was born and he’d to keep volume low but it helps to see all the names and keep up with the characters
One year ago today, we lost Sekou Smith. I’ve missed him every day since. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had a thought, picked up my phone to text Sekou, and then remembered that I can’t, not anymore.
Over a decade ago, when
@bosborne17
and I were launching the soccer mag Striker, Grant Wahl reached out, out of the blue, to ask how he could help. He ended up writing in every issue, for basically nothing, to help us, and to help soccer. So sad to hear of his passing. 💙
Happy birthday to the late, great Pete Maravich, who would have been 72 today. I've seen this video a few times and LOVE it. Also, if this happened in 2019, it would 1000% be tampering, and Red Auberbach would get a fine from the commissioner's office
