brexit is the funny bit at the end of the news over here: "and finally..on brexit island...."
A Swiss colleague put it beautifully "Brexit & English Politics makes Monty Python look like a documentary"
@Horses4CausesGB
#clapforboris
you say? I wish him well but watch the moment every Tory (apart from 1) including boris voted to block a pay rise to those "low skilled workers" at the NHS. You can hear them cheer the result. disgusting.

I was wondering why so many britons were forced to leave the EU and return to the UK post-brexit. So many cheap properties for sale in ES, PO and FR.
Turns out their pension doesn't satisfy the 3rd-country nationals minimum earnings threshold!
I visit england often...and witnessed the rise of racism & aggressive xenophobia post brexit. What is being peddled in Ireland is a carbon copy of same.
"Ireland First" is no different to "britain first" or "MAGA". It's right wing bollox and it saddens me to see it in Ireland.
@reginalddhunter
Meanwhile in Ireland, the largest party on the Island wants to refer Israel to the ICC and kick out the ambassador.
Motion is set for a few days time. Well done Ireland.
@SeanDefoe
don't get the selfishness of some who won't wear a mask because of their "rights". fair play to the guards.
Love the pantomime moment when they all said "Look behind you".
How did it end?
@danielmgmoylan
@mikegalsworthy
UK: We will take £130b of taxpayers cash and give it to the energy companies.
EU: It is unacceptable energy companies, on the back of a war and at the expense of consumers, make record profits. We will take back £140b from them
@DavidHenigUK
messrs johnson & frost know that the game is up, David.
#brexit
easement period ends in dec.
The tories are toast come 2022.
They are deliberately kicking off a trade war to blame the EU for what they negotiated, agreed, signed and ratified in the HoC.
how insecure do you have to be to rip up a friendly, multilingual welcome sign to a park like this and replace it with cheap, pound shop, flags?
The words "brónach agus foighneach" spring to mind.
any other Irish people feeling this way?
Originally embarrased for the football team singing along to a rebel song...but now...is sick of the faux, clearly performative "I'm offended" conflated into an international diplomatic incident sorta thinking..fückem...Tiocfaidh ár Mná!
@TimMacAndErny
making mogg minister for brexit benefits and the chauffeur driven crown on a chair in parliament had my european colleagues in tears.
"it makes monty python look like a documentary!" was how one swiss colleague put it.
Incredibly, she may actually be worse than johnson.
#clapforboris
you say? Watch and listen to the moment every Tory (apart from 1) voted to block a pay rise to those "low skilled workers" at the NHS. Nurses, doctors, care workers and even firefighters. You can hear them cheer the result. disgusting.

@sturdyAlex
are the english unaware the USA are fully on board with the EUs new regulatory framework?
Especially the clamp down on wealthy tax dodgers and corporations doing the same.
Climate change initiatives will have the EU & USA working side-by-side as well.
@dli_odoir
@danwootton
I am in england atm and it's incredibly performative. I saw one guy placing the flowers, while a friend videoed, a few times, presumably to get the faux sincerity and gravitas just right.
The reaction to diana was disturbing but this is on another level.
@thetimes
complete nonsense and childish. that said, I still fondly remember Boris in Dublin when Leo explained to him that
#brexit
is just the beginning of a very very long negotiation and journey. (Turn audio on for full effect)
@AndrewRTDavies
This is so ridiculous, I think this deserves a hashtag.

I hear this honey glazed couple had to sell their pad in sunny spain fierce cheap after they flew to england to made sure their vote to end FoM with brexit counted.
@TedUrchin
you're 100% correct.
German kids are taught about the Zuschauer (bystander) and the role they played in what happened in WWII.
Keep it going Ted. Don't be a bystander.
"they're punishing us" vibes from english newspapers on the new schengen checks starting soon.
In truth, the british helped design the new EES rules for Non EU nationals, back in 2014, to create a "fortress Europe".
brexit means britons are Non EU Nationals now.
@BillyKelleherEU
At Zurich Airport, British guy in front of me kept asking the (very patient) passport checker why she needed to check his passport.
She told him the UK is a non schengen country a few times. But he still rattled on "its just the EU being nasty isn't it?"
(CH is not in the EU)
@DouglasKMurray
Echoes of Anders Brevik there
@DouglasKMurray
. And, bizarrely, a touch of Father Ted!
Atheism rose by 8.1million and the number of people calling themselves christian fell by 5million.
That's refreshing, not something to be scared of.
this is fascinating. I sense a tide turning in little england and not in Proctors direction.
the english are not known for protesting...they still have a monarchy ffs...but the amount of EU flags waved at the last night of the proms was quite something.
BBC must investigate how so many EU flags were waved & on display at The Last Night of the Proms. Disgraceful & misguided BBC messing up a British tradition; a political gesture which would make Sir Henry Wood turn in his grave. Utterly vulgar & wrong.
Rule Britannia, not Rule
anyone interested in brexit and it's impact on Ireland, this is well worth a listen to the end.
@SteveBakerHW
explains to NI Unionism they must accept the WF is done and they "need to choose their futures".
Truly Jaw-dropping stuff.

comedy gold from the policy exchange.....
to paraphrase "NI business have reacted very quickly...the protocol is working very well for them. None of the chaos & problems we have in GB. Well, we can't be having that!"
@KevMonynys
that's about the same time the british were running around the colonies torturing and murdering the locals using machetes and rifles.
Them were the days, right?
@ruqaiya_h
Can't help but be reminded how an Irish politician asked for the expulsion of israeli ambassador from ireland a few years ago. Still relevant today.
@vivamjm
german kids today are taught not just what happened, but how it happened and turning a blind eye was a big part of it.
They saw johnson coming from a long way off..no binoculars required. This is from 2019.
@SuzyJourno
@LucidTalk
wonderful moment a BBC presenter explains to the world how the british & unionists in NI designed the NI border in such a way that a fair outcome from elections could never happen.
"an inbuilt unionist majority" was how he put it.
Love his enthusiasm.
behind a british lady irate that the local store near the beach here in Alvors doesn't stock british produce like butter anymore.

After the brexit deal and so many dead from covid, I love the idea that tories thought they had either.
@benjaminbutter
This is wonderful. Well done megan.
The british throwing a tantrum over someone mocking a tradition that belongs in the 19th century is priceless.
How very dare she! 🤣🤣
@KevinPMeagher
I'm reminded how the british claimed German reunification would be too expensive.
Thatcher was apoplectic when Haughey took advantage of Ireland's presidency of the EEC to call a summit supporting German reunification.
They failed to stop Germany will fail to stop Ireland too.
@Mandoline_Blue

I live quite close to Germany and they teach kids there about not just the atrocities that happened during their brief empire in the 20th century but HOW it happened.
I visit england often and am stunned with the fake history kids are taught there at school.
Brittania's done.
@ejwalsh_ed
does your BiL know that the

isn't "done" yet?
NI protocol is still in flux and ironically Gibraltar, who also voted remain in 2016, want a copy of that.
Meanwhile, UKG keeps asking the EU to delay big deadlines - as if they don't want those sunlit uplands quite yet!
🇪🇺 Faced with the greatest human exodus since the end of World War II, the EU has agreed to trigger a never-before-used directive to grant temporary protection for Ukrainians fleeing the military aggression waged by Russian forces.

@KilclooneyJohn
good grief. the new anthem was written by Phil Coulter, a derry lad living in Bray Co. Wickla-
Get over yourself John. Just think how, like the Irish rugby team which is 32 county - aN United Ireland will be "world beating" on the world stage.
Across the Island of Ireland, the tradition of inheriting your politics & religion from your parents is all but gone. And a new generation of Unionists are emerging in NI, sans toxic "traditions" and full of positivity.
As Sorcha Eastwoord personifies brilliantly here:

Dreadful atmosphere now. steady stream of beggars on the gatwick train greets you on arrival.

Elderly Swiss guy sitting beside me on a flight earlier, that was delayed for ages, said something that stuck about England: "once they seek reasons to defend the indefensible, it is game over"
I don't think he was talking about Love Island.
@IsabelOakeshott
britons having an hissy fit over a tradition that belongs in the 19th century really makes me chuckle.
time to reboot the education system in the UK to catch up with the rest of europe in the 21st century.
What might be exceptionally confusing for brexiters visiting Gibraltar soon is that they, not EU Citizens, will have to provide
☑️Fingerprints
☑️Criminal check
☑️ETIAS visa
☑️Full Biometric scan
just to enter Gibraltar!
I hear extra defibrillators will be available.

there was a very clear warning, before the brexit vote, that the preferred postion for the UKGOV was always a sea border.

Brevik is not held in a prison like that. he is in a very secure unit and if I understand the articles from correctly, he is denied normal internet access and other such privileges.

The way they booed the anthem was quite something.
I was on the fence before this game. After that I would like to see Germany win by quite a margin.
