If you have a 300k mortgage at 3% and 300k in cash you can pay off the mortgage immediately
Or you can invest in money market and get 5% and still have liquidity/optionality
I feel safer having money in the bank than a paid off mortgage

Merely suggesting that immigrants have higher affinity to their birthplace and ethnic group gets you called a racist, when it's generally true and replicated.
The only country country you can't have an affinity towards is the United States.

Not really.
The US sent plenty of people back; historically it was about a third of migrants eventually returned to their former countries.
The US is novel in the regard that it treats immigrants as future citizens.
Ireland is like everywhere else.
