I’m sure this won’t go well with some people but the US model of basketball is broken in regards to youth skill development and focus on rankings. Possible 3 best players in world (Giannis, Jokic and Luka) probably could have cared less about rankings or even known there were

After weekend coaching sons 6/7th grade aau team I’m even more in the belief that skills need to be developed and concepts taught.Too much zone and win at all costs.What does it matter to win a youth tourney but when get to HS can’t shoot pass dribble understand spacing guard etc

Young HS kids. Watch the college game and what is missing way too often. It’s the ability to shoot. Lock yourself in a gym and rep that jumper out until you’re the best shooter you can possibly be. Too many players can’t shoot and limit their careers because of it.

My sons HS team plays in state tourney this week as 1 seed. My wife (who won a state title in Washington 1998) and I were talking to him about the tournament and she showed him her ring. He looksat me and says “dad where is yours?” 🤔🤷♂️😤. Knowing full well I never won one.

Crazy to think Richie Frahm and I were teammates starting backcourt in a game for the Clippers and Turiaf was starting for the Lakers. 3 Zags starting in one NBA game. Now the program has double digit guys in the league. So amazing to see the growth of the program!

One of Suggs best attributes I’ve seen early is willingness to throw ahead as a point guard. It makes guys want to run the floor. They get rewarded then flattens the floor to attack when you want because defense has to honor throw ahead. Solid balance of the two for young PG

Keep seeing trainers with these cone drills and craziness. Handle the ball, pass the ball, catch the ball, be shifty with changing of speeds and directions be able to shoot it, be a willing defender and compete like crazy. No need for cones
