Pretending to be a "shoe circuit" team won't get your players recruited. The future of HS basketball recruiting belongs to those that create smart, strategic & innovative opportunities for their teams/players. Introducing:
Full website lauches April 2024
Another wake-up call for NBA front offices. Stop discounting quality 4 year guys who have been coached by great coaches at a high level and are more mature to be ready to be professionals from DAY 1 than most teenage prospects
Interesting note about Monday's NCAA title game: both teams (Virginia & Texas Tech) have a combined 1 McDonald's AA Game selection (Kyle Guy). Shows that talent alone doesn't win championships. Defense, toughness, winning attitude & other intangibles matter too
Biggest secret in AAU hoops: College coaches DON'T care what team you play for. What they DO care about is: Are you good enough to help them win and keep their jobs!
@patrickbetdavid
A guy defending the "nuclear family" but has multiple wives, mistresses and baby mommas? Lol give me a break! Putin has NO credibility when it comes to any type of traditional family values!
With only 2 live team AAU periods this year. What will matter for players is NOT what the name of the team or circuit you play for. What's most important is what coach/director your playing for! Do they have strong college relationships? Are they good at marketing their dudes?
This Emoni Bates news is beyond sad. It's heartbreaking. What's also problematic here is all the adults & corporate entities like
@espn
's Paul Biancardi & Adam Finklestein who helped create an ecosystem of entitlement around the kid & gave him a false sense of NBA future glory
@realDonaldTrump
@RonMFlores
Only a matter of time before this national clown nightmare is over and the good people of America reclaim the dignity and prestige of the office you currently sit in.
Jaime Jaquez could have transferred to any HS powerhouse in SoCal but stayed @ his local HS (Camarillo) where he got the lion's share of minutes, shots & chance to develop the mindset of a leader & alpha male. That decision did not interfere with his path to NBA
@latsondheimer
Lots of parents & players are down to the wire on making spring/summer AAU decisions. Don't get bamboozled by the bells & whistles or trivial things like a free shoes, sweatsuit, etc. The best playing situation & right coach gives you the BEST chance at scholie. Not any circuit
@BradBallisLife
@Ballislife
Well Brad... Arne Duncan did play college basketball at Harvard & pro ball in Australia. Not just a 24 hour fitness player lol
There are 3 platforms for 99% of HS players to gain exposure from: 1. HS teams 2. Club/AAU teams 3. Individual camps, leagues & showcases. Learn to produce and impress in ALL 3 and you will have best chance to achieve your college scholarship goals
Love Izzo! If coaches won't hold players accountable & demand excellence, who will? "I did get after him. He did respond. He did make a couple of big buckets. He did make some big free throws but that's not good enough. It's one-and-done time. The 'my-bads' are out the window.''
Seeing lots of young players (fr/so) & their parents worried too much about early offers which mean very little & which college programs are NOT obligated to honor. Best to focus more on development & the big picture/finish line! Early offers mean 0 if a NLI is never presented
I'm often amused when I hear younger generations claim today's NBA had better athletes than 80s & 90s. While NBA back then was older on average and arguably less leg lively, there aren't better athletes today than Dominique Wilkins, MJ, Dr. J, Worthy, Clyde Drexler & Larry Nance
No LaVar...No Melo.... No Problem for Chino Hills as they capture their 2nd CA State title in 3 yrs tonite in Sacramento led by their terrific trio of
@Ofure_0
,
@BigO21_
and Andre Ball
Draymond Green was a NBA 2nd Rd Draft pick. What most NBA scouts as well as the NBA Combine couldn't measure was his heart, competitiveness & leadership. But when a lot of them have never been in the heat of battle as a player and/or coach, how would they know the value of that?
Notable NBA stars that were NOT "1 & done" guys: Steph Curry, Russell Westbrook, James Harden, Kawhi Leonard, Damian Lilliard, Paul George, Jimmy Butler, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green, Kemba Walker, Kyle Lowry, Al Horford...there is real benefit from the college hoops experience
See a lot of self-serving social media greetings "Welcoming" players to their AAU programs. Wonder if any of them will send them greetings of "Bon Voyage" or "Best Wishes" when they leave their programs during the AAU season or even before AAU play even begins lol
When Josh Christopher aka
@Jaygup23
(Mayfair) is playing hard & fully engaged defensively, there's not a better SG in West (and arguably country). Christopher willed his Monsoons to an exciting Take Flight win tonite vs. Bishop Montgomery with a 44 point masterpiece for the ages
This is time of yr that lots of AAU "Saluting" going on. Come April there's going to be lots of "U-turning" lol Players/parents beware of the "fast-talking" going on. Do your home-work. Find best situation that maximizes your recruiting value. Got to be on floor to have value
No disrespect to this kid but this a prime example why the transfer portal has become a drug to these college coaches. Plenty of good HS unsigned seniors out there including 3-4 at Bishop Montgomery/CA who are prepared for next level by a demanding HS coach that teaches good D
Legends aren't born. They are molded through the test of time - through fire 🔥 & ice 🧊. Boo Williams (coaching AAU since the 80s) is one of those dudes! His Boo Williams team alums include future NBA players Allen Iverson, Alonzo Mourning, JR Reid & JJ Reddick. What a legacy!
Johnny Juzang is a great example (and not only 1) that not every good college player is an instant success the minute he steps foot on campus. It takes time for most & just because you're not killing it from Day 1 doesn't mean you're not going to NBA. Keep focused. Keep working
In a Nike EYBL increasingly populated by teams sponsored by NBA stars, Boo Willams & Leo Papile (BABC) have stood the test of time & have more than held their own at the elite grassroots level. Whenever they decide to hang it up, it will truly be the end of an era. Legends!
Michael Jordan did not make his HS varsity team as a sophomore. The world's future
#1
player did not quit. He bounced back with amazing determination. That's how champions are made
Enduring the tragic murder of his dad at the hands of Middle East terrorists, Steve Kerr earned EVERYTHING he ever received at Arizona & in NBA (5 time NBA champ as player & 3 times as a head coach) and
#1
NBA all-time in 3FG%, Put some respect on that Kerr name!
Who can name the 3 future NBA players on this Belmont Shore bench. Hints: year is 2006; one is a future NBA All-Star; one is a future NBA MVP; and one started at PG for Michigan & the Lakers
Stop panicking ladies & gentlemen. There will be a 2020 spring & summer grassroots hoops season and
@BallerTV
will be a prime conduit to helping college coaches watch players play. Just keep calm & stay informed
Former long-time D1 assistant David Grace (UCLA, Vanderbilt, Cal, Oregon State, San Francisco & Sacramento State) has been officially named as the new head coach at Campbell Hall/North Hollywood CA. Desert Storm vet had been coaching recently at Centennial HS/Peoria AZ
There is no harder working NBA GM when it comes to scouting HS talent than OKC Thunder's Sam Presti. Like anything else effective NBA draft preparation is hard work. Here at
@usabjnt
as he normally also is every year at
@PangosAACamp
& several other yearly NBA certified events
Word to the wise: Players, if your coach this July never got on you for any correctable mistakes you made, that means he doesn't really believe in your future or think you have high potential. If he was all over your ass, that means he doesn't want you to squander it
Heard a parent scream an insult at a player from the stands tonite: "
#10
is an ass-hole!!!" PLEASE parents: DO NOT scream personal insults at players from stands. They are just teenagers! They don't deserve any verbal or mental abuse. It's not acceptable & has no place at games!
I know there are lots of disappointed unsigned HS seniors out there who are experiencing a double-whammy: No live spring exposure opportunities & colleges preferring to mine NCAA transfer portal for 5th year seniors than gamble on HS seniors. Maybe time to consider the JC route
See some nat'l outlets trying to publish national 2023 rankings right now. I understand the pressure for "clicks" but it seems bizarre that most of the guys doing those rankings have NOT seen most of these kids recently or at all. College coaches & aspiring players deserve better
Congrats to all the players selected to the McDonald's All-American Game. To those that made it: Don't let it be the pinnacle of your hoop career. More than 50% of McDees DON'T make NBA. For those that didn't: Don't let it define you as player. Use it as wood for your fire!
It's extremely hard to get to the NBA. It's even harder lasting there. Nothing wrong with having BOTH Hoop Dreams and Book Dreams! Get your education young men! It will last a lifetime
@UnofficialJaye
1st Amendment restricts GOVERNMENT suppression of Free Speech NOT PRIVATE Companies like Twitter. Apparently Keri missed that in her HS Government Class
This weekend NCAA enforcement persons visited shoe circuit & other events looking for improper interaction. Where they should have been was Indy airport this afternoon where its a complete NCAA mess right now as AAU teams & college coaches are all waiting for flights together lol
The
@NCAA
just sent event operators a notice of their intention to impose more stringent financial disclosure requirements on us. I will make the NCAA a deal: you show us your books, I will be more than happy to show you mine! Enough of the hypocrisy!
Wishing my guy Cezar Guerrero (St. John Bosco/CA grad) all the best this week as he participates at Dallas Mavericks Vet Mini-camp in Dallas TX. The former Belmont Shore star & Fresno State PG (led Bulldogs to NCAA tourney as a senior) played in Mexico Pro League last 2 years
48 NBA team scouts from 28 NBA teams as well as Rod Strickland (NBA G-League Ignite) attended the recent
@PangosAACamp
in Las Vegas. Top NBA media/scouts also on-hand include Mike Schmitz, Aran Smith & Matt Babcock. USA Basketball's Don Showalter & BJ Domingo also attended
If the
@ncaa
wants to restrict anybody from the live-periods, it should start with those entities and platforms that are the breeding grounds for the corruption and improper pay-offs that lay at the heart of the FBI probe, NOT ban thousands of kids looking for college opportunity
Nike EYBL has cancelled its April stops. NCAA officials are now meeting to determine what, if anything, will done with existing planned April live periods. Nothing has been decided yet although
@JonRothstein
has reported no off-campus NCAA recruiting until April 15th
@RonMFlores
Regular season HS teams parading as "club" teams. AAU teams masquerading as "scholastic" teams. Teams paying for shoes/gear pretending to be shoe sponsored circuit squads. HS Hoops is in crisis. Who will provide leadership to get us all to a better place?
@usabasketball
@NCAA
New
@PangosAACamp
TARGET date is now August 28-30, 2020. Obviously that involves federal & state restrictions & guidelines being lifted by that time. Additional adjustments re: date will be made as is necessary to protect the safety of everyone involved
Before he transferred to Oklahoma, Lakers G Austin Reeves spent 2 years at Wichita State where he started just 11 times in 66 games averaging 6.1 ppg, 2.5 rpg & 1.6 ppg. As a OU senior he averaged 18.3 pts, 5.5 rebs & 4.6 assts. Progress takes time. Let it happen. Play it out.
Colin Sexton was on the team I coached last May at the
@Ballislife
All-American Game in Long Beach CA. Haven't seen a lead guard with this kind of confidence and innate ability to score in a long time
Just saw a sub-17u sponsored team tweeting a video showing nothing but their free pairs of shoes. Pretty gear won't get you a D1 scholarship. Only hard work, skill development & ability to compete at highest HS level will !
@maliikawalker
I love Steve Kerr but he hasn't been to an AAU game since his son played HS ball at Torrey Pines HS/San Diego CA. There are less AAU live windows than ever before. AAU is not the real problem. The entitlement culture created by major shoe companies as well as agents/runners are
Kihei Clark started his college career winning a NCAA title as a freshman & ended it losing in 1st round to a
#13
seed. NCAA tourney is often that unpredictable. Nonetheless, Kihei had a fantastic career & 1 to be proud of. More importantly he earned a Virginia degree for FREE
3 yrs ago I came up with the concept of the Terrific 24 so that strong independent squads could be relevant again in the April Live Period. Making it easy for as many D1 coaches to see those teams by being where most of the coaches were already going to be is a Win-Win for ALL
Congrats to my guy Keith Dinwiddie (Fairfax/Los Angeles CA) for officially signing with San Diego State. 2019
@PangosAACamp
& NBPA Top 100 Camp invitee &
@thefantastic40
all-tourney pick continued the Belmont Shore lead guard legacy this past year. Future MWC star!
What we are witnessing from Oregon State is nothing short of miraculous ! You basically have 3 Beaver starters that no HMs wanted, a 4th starter that was highly undervalued even though he was 1 of CA's all-time scorers & Ethan Thompson who should have been a McDonald's AA
Breakthrough NBA Game for my guy
@TDORSEY_1
- career high 29 points (11/19 FG: 5/10 3FG) & 9 assists in 43 min in OT loss to Orlando Magic. Love to see his "Mr. March" confidence back. 10 games left for Grizzlies including a return home to LA on Sun March 31 to play Clipppers
I really like Emoni Bates like everybody else but before we anoint him as the Best HS player over the past 10 years, shouldn't we see him play a 17u game in the EYBL first? No hate. Just saying
Wearing a mask when you are out in public during a pandemic is NOT a sign of weakness! It's a sign of caring about your own health as well as the well being of the people you care about as well as your community. This macho, anti-authority bravado is stupid AND dangerous !
I know the need to release periodic HS hoop rankings in order to get clicks but I don't understand how updated rankings are possible RIGHT NOW since nobody has been seen playing games or has been evaluated since early March. Seems better to release new rankings after Aug or Sept
PSA Announcement to all my young ballers out there. Most players will never make the NBA. Only 450 spots each year for players world-wide. That's ok. Take advantage of free education as well as other pro opportunities. Lots of current NBA assistants that never played in NBA
This urgency to deprive young athletes of their childhoods is rather pathetic. Taking adolescents out of normal learning environments with other students with diverse backgrounds & interests will do more long-term damage than good. Relationships in HS & college have real value
Former Belmont Shore star PG Cezar Guerrero (St. John Bosco HS & Fresno State) has been invited to the Dallas Mavericks vet mini-camp in mid-June in Dallas TX. Cezar has been killing it in Mexico Pro League last 2 years
@RonMFlores
@mattballislife
@latsondheimer
@BeachCityHoops
My new 2024 Top 10:
1. Dylan Harper
2. Flory Bidunga
3. Ace Bailey
4. Boogie Fland
5. Cam Scott
6. Isaiah Elohim
7. Tre Johnson
8. Robert Wright
9. Jalil Bethea
10. Naas Cunningham
11. Ian Jackson
12. Karter Knox
13. Tahaad Pettiford
14. Larry Johnson
15. Rakease Passmore
When it comes to picking the right AAU team, it's really about finding the right fit related to team & coach NOT whether you're gonna get a free pair of shoes, sweatsuit & backpack
Pangos Sweet 16 Friday Flashback: David Singleton (UCLA) & Kihei Clark (Virginia) are players from independent AAU teams that went on to college glory with Final 4s & NCAA titles on their resume. Currently playing in NBA Summer League (Singleton/Hawks; Clark/Jazz)
@FrankieBur
Not to bust anyone's bubble, but I'm getting a little amused at all these HS team tweets thanking college coaches for showing up at their practices. These coaches are not doing anybody any favors. It's their job to go where the players they're recruiting are!
The
@Section7Az
event should be a model for all State HS associations. Building real partnerships with community & corporate groups that can provide the resources necessary to offer real opportunity to our youth is a Win-Win for all involved. Real leadership takes effort
Making a difference in the lives of people should not be pursued for recognition or honors. But rather its the great personal satisfaction you feel when you made an impact in their lives. The best rewards are truly personal & are not dependent on the opinions or beliefs of others
2021
@PangosAACamp
Notes: one of the standouts of last nite's action was 6-7 2022 Grady Dick. Kansas-bound versatile swingman was impressive above the rim (had 1 of best dunks of the nite), connected from distance (2 threes en route to 12 pts) & had 5 rebs & 6 assts
@ebosshoops
@GrantCardone
The only reason you think Russia is winning is because you get your news from Russian TV lol stop rooting against your own country! It's really shameful
Not only does Trump not want to debate....he doesn't know how to ! Enough of this comedy hour! He's an international embarrassment to this country! He's got to go !
For 30 yrs of being knee-deep in AAU/grassroots ball, I've always thought of it as being the Wild West! But what I'm seeing right now, AAU has NOTHING on the out of control craziness of college basketball transfer portal. It's not sustainable. It's gonna implode if nothing done
Great Kobe memorial but notable omissions:
No mention of his parents, notably his dad Jelly Bean who taught him the game & gave him a world perspective as a kid by playing pro in Italy. No mention of Sonny Vaccaro who masterminded his HS to NBA route & marketed him brilliantly
Payton Pritchard to the Celtics in 1st round is a great example that staying 4 years is not necessarily a bad thing if you're constantly improving, producing and earning your keep. Nobody had Payton in the 1st round but he played his way into it, especially in a down draft
Texas Tech-bound 2022 PG Rickie Isaacs sizzling hot tonite in 1st half (17 pts) at Torrey Pines Holiday Classic as Coronado/NV (3-5) leads a well coached Clayton Valley/CA squad 35-24 @ the half. There is not a better scoring playmaking senior lead guard in West than Isaacs
Kihei Clark becomes 1st Cali kid to start in NCAA title game since my guy & former Belmont Shore star DeAndre Daniels started & was big part of UConn's upset win over Kentucky in 2014. Daniels (made all-NCAA tourney) & Clark both played for Derrick Taylor @ Taft HS/Woodland Hills
Telling this ref "are you serious"? after he called an offensive foul on NBA future lotto pick Brandon Jennings at 2007 Reebok Summer Championships in Las Vegas as Darius Morris (former Michigan star & LA Lakers PG) looks on
Seeing a lot of teams associated with the newest money grab "circuit" NXTPRO keep plastering New Balance logos all over their social media while all they are doing is buying NB gear or having a 3rd party buy it for them. As NXTPRO's memo shows, this is NOT a New Balance circuit
The person I'm most happy for with respect to San Diego State's run to title game is retired coach Steve Fisher who arrived in San Diego from the Midwest & transformed a perennial door mat into a NCAA tourney regular & regional power. 1 of the nicest & classiest coaches I've met
My 1st HS hoops event was the Fullcourt Press Fall Hoops Classic held in Sept 1993 at Long Beach City College NBA Top 75 Paul Pierce played in it as a HS soph. Paul stopped by today at the Pangos JR All-American Camp. Wow how 30 years flies by!
@FCPPangos
@FCPPangos

1st NCAA live periods for D1 coaches not until mid-late April but plenty of good evaluation opportunities for D2, D3, NAIA & JC coaches starting in March. My advice to non-D1 coaches: if you're not working, you're not winning! The future hardware belongs to the grinders
