On June 28, 1981, at 4:35 a.m., Terry took his final breath, surrounded by the love of his family and his nation. Canadians could not believe that this strong, courageous, man would never run again. Thank you, Terry, for lighting a fire of hope that burns brighter every day.

September 1, 1980. After 143 days and 5,373 kms Terry was forced to stop running outside of Thunder Bay, the cancer had spread to his lungs. “I’m gonna do my very best. I’ll fight. I promise I won’t give up.” Terry Never gave up and neither will we.

40 years ago today, it was day 52, on a 2 lane highway in NB, and Terry would quietly pass the 2,000km mark on his Marathon of Hope… There was no celebration, no reporters, and no photos, just a young man doing what he hoped would make the world a better place...

On June 17, 2011, Canada lost another cancer research champion, Terry's mom Betty Fox. Betty led by example, adopting her son's mission as her own and she spent more than three decades thanking Canadians for keeping her son in their hearts. We miss Betty today, and every day.

#OnThisDay – October 15, 1979 Terry wrote to the Canadian Cancer Society, asking for their support. “I’m not a dreamer, and I’m not saying that this will initiate any kind of definitive answer or cure to cancer, but I believe in miracles. I have to.”

Terry was pursuing a degree in kinesiology at Simon Fraser University when he started training for the Marathon of Hope. He knew the importance of eating right, sleeping, and tracking his progress. Terry kept a detailed journal, logging every mile he ran while training...
