This is Simone Segouin, an incredible resistance fighter. Her first mission was to steal a Nazi’s bike, and thereafter went on with her team to derail a train, blow up bridges, arrest 25 Nazis in a single day, and pretty much liberate France.
She’s still alive at the age of 97!

81 years ago, Janush Korchak , the head of an orphanage in Warsaw, decided that he would not save his own life and that he would accompany his students to the death camp of Treblinka where they were all were murdered by the Germans and their helpers.

1940 Germany invaded by home country. Two years later my family were deported to Auschwitz. I was murdered in a gas chamber. I was 5. I was not the youngest to be killed that day.

This picture was taken in April 1945, by Major Clarence Benjamin and shows a train of Jewish prisoners that had been intercepted by Allied Forces.
This is the moment they learned that the train would not be heading to a concentration camp and they had been liberated.

in 1921 Sophie Scholl was arrested. A member of the anti Nazi resistance group, The White Rose, Sophie, along with brother Hans & Christoph Probst, was convicted of high treason in Feb 1943, for distributing anti-war leaflets. They were executed by guillotine. Sophie was 22.
My name is Betje van Delft. When I was ten months old, my family were deported from Amsterdam to Auschwitz. When we arrived, everybody was shouting and screaming. My last memory is of mother carrying me into a dark room. And then the gas.

Ruth Cohen was born in Munkacs, Czechoslovakia, in 1930. She and her family were forced into a ghetto and later deported to Auschwitz. Ruth and her sister Teresa were liberated by the United States Army in early 1945.
Ruth survived.
When I'm feeling sorry for myself, I remember this picture of the dear little Jewish orphan in Austria, who was absolutely delighted to have received a new pair of shoes from the Red Cross in 1946.

I was murdered in a gas chamber.

Ike Alterman's entire family were murdered by Germans in the Holocaust. As a boy, he survived 4 concentration camps, including Auschwitz, and a death march, before settling in Manchester. Today aged 94 Ike tells his story to British schoolchildren.

Mary Elmes was an Irish aid worker in France when WWII began. She risked her life to save hundreds of Jewish children from the Nazis, even when facing arrest from the Gestapo. Decades later, she is finally receiving the recognition she deserves.
Wedding rings taken from Holocaust victims. The rings were found near the Buchenwald concentration camp following liberation by US Army soldiers. Germany, May 1945.
Dr Tina Strobos, born 1920 in Amsterdam. Provided a hiding place for over 100 Jews fleeing the Nazis, forged passports, smuggled supplies for the Resistance. Arrested nine times by Gestapo & beaten, never betrayed a soul. Died aged 91.
Like many children during the Holocaust, Józefa became an orphan after her mother Marianna was murdered in a gas chamber, while her father was also deported to Auschwitz in a different transport, ultimately leading to his death.
Irene Weiss was born in 1930 in Bótrágy, Czechoslovakia. She, her parents, and her five siblings were forced into a ghetto in Munkács before being sent to Auschwitz-Birkenau. Irene sorted items stolen from prisoners for eight months and later survived a forced march.

Sad news from Holland. Hannah Goslar, one of Anne Frank's best friends who like her was held in the Bergen-Belsen Nazi concentration camp during World War II, died on Friday at age 93. She lived an amazing life. May her memory be a blessing.

in 1918, gave shelter to ten Jews in a villa of a German major, where she worked as a housekeeper.
All ten survived WW2.
In all, Irena saved seventeen lives from the Holocaust.
During the German occupation of the Netherlands, Marion Pritchard helped save approximately 150 Jewish children from deportation to Auschwitz.
Marion Pritchard passed away on December 11, 2016, at the age of 96.

95-year-old Dr Edith Eger survived Auschwitz. Pictured recently with her family, her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She always says that this is her revenge to Hitler.
It's just over a year that Holocaust survivor Edward Mosberg, 96, died in New Jersey.
Born in Kraków in 1926, after surviving the horrors of Auschwitz & Mauthausen, Mosberg fought against antisemitism, devoting the last years of his life to Holocaust education.

My name is Sylvain Kozubski. I was born in Metz, France, on this day in 1938. Four years later, in September 1942, my family were deported to Auschwitz. Inside, we were separated. My parents were put in the Work line. I was pushed into the gas chamber. The crime? Being Jewish.
The small French village of Chambon-sur-Lignon received a $2.4 million gift in the will of a 90-year-old Austrian, Eric Schwam.
Shocked officials learned that Schwam was paying the town back for saving him and his family from the Nazis 80 years earlier.
After Nazis invaded Netherlands in 1940, Dutch watchmaker named Corrie ten Boom and her family decided to build a secret room in their home. For 4 years, they would use this room to hide Jews and save them from Holocaust.
Ten Boom tell her story in book “The Hiding Place.”
Alfred (Al) Münzer was born in the Netherlands in 1941. At one year old, Al was placed into the care of a Dutch-Indonesian family for his protection. After liberation, Al’s mother, who survived several concentration camps including Auschwitz, returned and they were reunited.
