@mrdanwalker
for asking me to talk about the lovely Janice Long this morning, champion of many bands, always a laugh & a natural broadcaster. Catch you somewhere down the road.......
Very, very sad to hear about my old friend & colleague, the lovely Janice Long. An absolute delight to do many radio and TV programmes with and always a champion of good music. How terrible that we never get to say goodbye. A tear, a big hug & wonderful memories.
@janicelongdj
Wright.
Chum: In the beginning was Read & Wright.
We got ‘fired’ on a regular basis for being too rebellious, too creative & pursuing our own music policy. We persisted. We came through. You dun good boy! Your Pal,
Read.
I see the BBC's new Saturday Night Show, 'That's My Jam' is getting slated. Why create programmes that no-one watches. We used to get a regular audience of 10 million every Saturday night for Pop Quiz & the BBC still won't bring it back or show the classics sitting in the archive
Deeply upset to hear about Bill Kenwright. No-one was as passionate about theatre & music as Bill. It was his life blood. The last text I received was three kisses as he went in for his op. Dim the lights of the West End & let's have a theatre named after him.
Sad to hear about Millie Small. Her early journey was steered initially by Coxone Dodd's label, then Chris Blackwell's Island..... My Boy Lollipop put island Records on course to become an influential record label with an excellent musical reputation.
So sad to hear about Sir Michael Parkinson. An interviewer who only had to touch the tiller...and a keen cricket fan...we were discussing Statham, Washbrook & Worrell at length only a few weeks ago
@TalkingPicsTV
Pictures TV. A standing ovation on the final walk to the pavilion.
Such sad news about the lovely Des O'Connor. A gentleman. Top chat show host. No.1 in the singles chart. Royal Variety host. Actor. beloved of Morecambe & Wise. Great all-rounder from Redcoat to compering Buddy Holly's only UK tour. Here is Des backstage with Buddy.
This bunch of Radio One rascals waylaid me today so unable to do the socials. A great afternoon with Adrian Juste, Andy Peebles, DLT. The new chart will be up later.
Do you miss Top of the Pops? Keen to watch major artists on Thursdays at 7.00? Maybe with bit of chat? The odd Pop Quiz question? Some classic videos? A Heritage Chart rundown. And help your favourite artists whose income has been decimated? "That Was Then..This Is Now" is coming
Sad to hear about Judith Durham. My father referred to her as a 'proper singer.' Between 1965 & 1967 The Seekers had 2 No.1 records and 8 Top 40 hits & were the first Australian act to top the UK Singles Chart. A wonderful career and a great legacy.
Tea, cake, music & a few laughs with the birthday boy yesterday. On terrific form. And we're holding the wee present of a leather jacket I had painted by the brilliant artist
@shanyHagan
Rock & Roll.
So upset to hear about my former Radio One colleague Annie Nightinglale. Passionate lover of music, trailblazer, pioneer, champion of artists, inspiration to broadcasters & MBE. Oh those crazy Pisces parties of hers in Brighton. You never stopped! xx
Very sad to hear about Les McKeown. Last interviewed him late 2019...always fun always good to work with...and always fun on twitter....and by golly were they big in the 1970s. Bye Bye Les.....great legacy my friend.
@LesMcKeownUK
With dear Richard O'Sullivan today, celebrating his 80th birthday today. Pals for the best part of 60 years. First worked together in an epiode of Emergency Ward 10.
We never stopped laughing - esp. when the cameras were rolling!! Happy Birthday dear Ricardo...
I'll be on 'This Morning' tomorrow talking about my legendary Pal Steve Wright....we tore up the rule book and got away with it!

Hi
@sainsburys
as a customer I do not want flags on my groceries. Neither do I want strawberries given a nationality.
Especially this Brit flag which is associated with colonialism.
Did you consider the views of customers who will not buy goods with colonial flags on them?
Very sad to hear about the lovely Bobby Ball. Strangest memories are playing tennis with him in Birmingham, cooking spaghetti bolognese & sewer rafting in Bologna..& Chariot racing in Faenza...as you do...
With Melvyn Hayes at the Talking Pictures weekend. We chatted on stage about Summer Holiday, The Young Ones, It Ain’t Half Hot Mum & beyond.
@TalkingPicsTV
The breakfast shows kicks in at 7.00
@DownforceRadio
So sad to hear about
#MichaelAngelis
the voice of Thomas the Tank Engine and a lovely man with whom I had the privilege of working in Midsomer Murders, The Axeman Cometh.
So sad to hear about Duane Eddy. Lovely guy. Inspired many. Interviewed him for radio & TV & was even lucky enough to play a bit of guitar with him. He is currently No.1 on the Heritage Chart as one of Mark Knopfler's Guitar Heroes. Going out at the top! That's style.
This is the most terrible, terrible news. A true gentleman and showbusiness trooper who never gave less than 100%. A genuine pleasure to have worked with him for so long and to have so many moments to treasure. xx
At Radio One, four of us were paid extra to carry
@tonyblackburn
to & from the studio. The wearing of jackets & ties for the occasion was set in stone. This day I threw caution to the wind...as I do every day for the
@uniteddjsradio
breakfast show at 7.
We were talking about Call my Bluff on the Footage Detectives
@TalkingPicsTV
& Mark Watkins brilliantly found an episode I did in 1987. I was on with Spike Milligan, Frank Muir & Arthur Marshall et al....what larks!
A lovely morning with Cliff yesterday. Buddy Holly Champagne delivered & enough material for a two hour special
@uniteddjsradio
But more immediately today's breakfast show....
Waiting for Noel to emerge from his capacious dressing room flanked by security, make-up, hair stylist & toy poodle so we can start shooting The Footage Detectives

TPTV at the TV Awards. Madeleine Smith, Noel Cronin, Caroline Munro & me face the cameras. We were beaten by Netflix, but there’s always next year.
@TalkingPicsTV
At 7.00 the Heritage Chart Radio Breakfast Show heritage or ask Alexa or on Apple App.
Sixty years ago today Radio Caroline changed the face of the radio & music industry opening the door for singers, groups, songwriters, publishers & record labels. It's importance cannot be overestimated. I'll pick up the baton at 7.00 on Heritage Chart Radio & continue the work.
Les McKeown has made it....! 75 countries voted this week! He tops the Heritage Chart with 'Goodbye.' He'd be so proud of his fans...but hey...what a song....

loved the Heritage Chart so much he suggested there was room for a 'Fox Chart.' I pointed out the limitations, but he reasoned that he could be at No.1 in perpetuity. I couldn't argue with his logic. And he did buy me 2 pokey polas.
Well, we've just filmed the first Heritage Chart TV show to test the water. It will first transmit on Sunday February 6th at 7.00pm. Details of stations later. Then, hopefully a weekly TOTP style show. But right now this week's Heritage Chart

The Fizz & former No.1 'Don't Start Without Me' is this week's No.15 after an 8 week run and some hot singles during 2020. We hear a whisper there may be a new single soon. Crikey they scrub up OK don't they?

I’m heartbroken.
I’ve lost a dear friend and partner.
I’m so grateful that we could spend the last couple of months together doing what we loved best – singing, laughing, and doing shtick.
I’ll miss it all so much. Especially the shtick.
Rest in peace, Nez.
All my love,
Micky
So sad to hear about the lovely Gerry Marsden... he & the Pacemakers were the first act to reach number one in the UK Singles Chart with their first three single releases: "How Do You Do It?", "I Like It" and "You'll Never Walk Alone".
Radio One Football team: (back row) Gambaccini, Read, Wright, Skinner ( front row) Peel, Burnett, Powell, Edmonds. Breakfast show I play slone from 7.00

Delighted that BBC Four are showing a classic Pop Quiz on Sunday 11th June 7.30pm. The problem was having to wear a different top every week. The wardrobe was bursting with one-off tops! Casual this morning for the breakfast show at 7.00am

Sad news about HMV. A lack of physical sales is another blow for artists & songwriters. If the creatives removed their product from streaming & other platforms & just sold through outlets like HMV or their own web sites the industry would surely be revitalised. "Dam the Stream!"
Today we celebrate our 4th birthday!

Great to kick start the good times again. From our last TOTP in June 2006 to our first That Was Then ...This Is Now in November 2020. All our artists on our TV series appeared on TOTP... and we go live on Nov 5th from 7.00 ...the old TOTP timeslot.
Denny Laine passed away peacefully this morning with his wife Elizabeth at his side. It's perhaps poetic that he departed this mortal coil 50 years to the day that Band on the Run - his and Paul's crowning glory - was issued in America.
Rest in peace Denny.

Pop Pickers....it's National Disc Jockey Day! Ray Newby played first records in 1909 in San Fernando. Walter Winchell coined the term 'disc jockey' 25 years later. Peter Eckersley was our first 'DJ' in 1922. Here are 4 Radio One Breakfast Show DJs inflicting pain on another.
Great fun shooting 4 more episodes of 'The Footage Detectives' yesterday for Talking Pictures TV and looking forward to the next 4 in March. You get tea, a cheese roll, crisps, a free haircut & your own dressing room. I even took a shot to prove it.

Still excited by snow, I was up early, scarved & booted & out of the traps as soon as the first few flakes fell. Imagine hurtling along this, the Old Bath Road, in a coach in the 1700s... haunted by highwaymen, even in the snow.
Back in the

studio after two weeks after a week with my TV shows in Cannes, the week of Radio Milestones, the Luxembourg Blue Plaque, book signings and songwriting. Up to town to record a special on the Bay City Rollers with Les McKeown after the breakfast show.
Another musical pioneer gone as we lose the great Don Everly. The Everlys were groundbreaking and innovative with their own distinctive sound and magical harmonies. A privilege to know them both...an inspiration to many...and what a musical legacy.
Another fun gathering today. An unruly mob of BBC actors, presenters & hierarchy, blocking the pavement in Regent St. How many of us can you name? I think I have 12.
