I didn’t sleep much before Pride Night in Anaheim because I seriously worried about the backing out issue. I had chills seeing my jersey design worn on-ice in warmups & thank my team for allowing me that joy, for committing fully to LGBT acceptance. That’s what we need more of.
Yet another
@NHL
team has caved to homophobia and abandoned the wearing of LGBT Pride jerseys for warm-ups.
While the team did execute other initiatives, it's yet another slap in the face from the NHL and its players.

The botched "allow players to use religion to withdraw from pride night & preach intolerance" strategy leads to cruelty & distortion of actual religious values.
LGBTQ ppl deal with this hate daily. And as is so plainly obvious, religion is being misused as an excuse for bigotry.
Ryan Donato is a very openly devout Christian. he does the sign of the cross whenever he gets on and off the ice. he has a special blessed rosary from Medjugorje, a town of holiness for the Catholic faith.

I spoke w ESPN re NHL’s decision to ban specialty jerseys from warmups: “It means that we all must do more, not less, to honor our diverse communities and make everyone feel welcome. It's time to do what we do best and get creative to figure out how to invest in our communities.”

I am really concerned about working conditions in the sport and I want to reach out to other marginalized employees. We need to band together. It is not ok to erase us. We exist.
Efforts to ban diversity initiatives makes me really sad and scared about my future in this sport.
The NHL bans Pride jerseys after the commissioner says we need to accept homophobia.
So much is in how you talk about this, and explain differences.
Bettman's language has been the worst in all of sports on this topic.

Thank you, Coach Staley, for exemplifying what it means to be an ally. Being in favour of human rights for marginalized groups, even if they happen to be trans, isn't difficult. One thing I've realized about those who fight to exclude and discriminate is they don't know science.
South Carolina head coach Dawn Staley says she believes that Trans women should be allowed to play in women's sports.
She adds that she knows that saying this is going to lead her to be bullied and harassed and she's ok with that.
