Favorite highlight for me tonight? All-American pitcher Paul Skeens carrying injured catcher Alex Milazzo out to the dog pile. TEAMMATES!!!! 💜💛

Kobe Bryant was asked: “You are the best player in the world. Why would you spend 2 hours on some fundamental drills and do them over and over again?”
He responded: “Why do you think I’m the best player in the world?”

For those parents, youth coaches and players that like to give out their points scored, coaches are looking for more…how else are you impacting your team and the game.
Erik Spoelstra started out in the film room breaking down tape for the Heat — working his way up to one of the leagues best coaches…a great thought for so many young coaches who want to bypass critical steps for growth.
Another special moment for me immediately following the Championship game was hearing Seimone call me over to where the alumni were standing on the other side of the rope. It was so important to me to thank them all —they planted the seeds! We wouldn’t be there without them. 💜💛
What are your non-negotiables? What are your standards for creating and sustaining your culture? Have you communicated them with everyone in your program? And not just your players. Are they in writing?
Phil on MJ: “His gift was not that he could jump high, run fast or shoot a basketball. His gift was that he was completely present. And that was a separator.”

Discouraged because you are falling short on the timeline you’ve set for yourself? If the dream means enough to you, you will be relentless in its pursuit. Stay with the grind!
Shared this with our team today as well as former players and loved ones:
The young lady in the car was decapitated -- they found her phone in her hand. Is checking your phone for a text, call, email or social media update really that necessary!
As a young coach, I was all about writing down the plays…my schemes were heavy on taking plays away. What I learned from Geno was to be more focused on concepts…are they a ball screen team…a cutting team…work on defending concepts.

asked me how many students for my

donation? I said “556 but I’m going to round it up to $1000.” She said “I’ll match it.” AND SHE DID!!! She just screen shot me her receipt — just when I thought I couldn’t love Big 4 more! 💖💖💖

What are we doing today with our teams to grow the energy and optimism in our culture?

Wasn’t lost on me that

stopped his team’s practice in the practice gym yesterday to come out an honor Joe Ciampi as his banner was unveiled. Can’t begin to put into words how incredibly supportive

has been to our program.

This was a stat line for Dennis Rodman for one game…didn’t make a basket or score a point…but grabbed 28 rebounds…how can you impact a game without scoring?

Yesterday I mentioned I would share my scouting form I use taking notes when breaking down video. Wasn’t expecting 750 emails when I got to work this morning. I promise I will get to everyone the next day or two.

One thing that’s made me a better teacher is post practice eval:
1. Take notes during on plan
2. Use dictaphone
3. Always watch practice video
Always pick up something on video I didn’t see during practice.

Red — to do for tomorrow
Blue — add next week

: how much information do you give your team. I promise less is more. Don’t try to impress you team with all that you know. Give them what they need to succeed.
