Official Gov Account for NYC Council Member Carmen De La Rosa, District 10: Washington Heights, Inwood & Marble Hill. Chair of Civil Service & Labor Committee.
ICE came into our community, impersonated municipal law enforcement officers, violated state law and took one of our neighbors. A family in pain must now put the pieces back together. ICE must be abolished they aren’t protecting they are destroying. I am livid! Enough!
Today I was sworn in as the Council Member for the 10th District! I am so fortunate to have had my family with me, I am because of them! Thank you community for the opportunity to serve! 10th District we are ready! 💪🏾
Just filled out the form for remote learning for Fall 2020 for my six year old. I have no idea how to be a Teacher/ Assemblywoman but here we go 1st grade. The anxiety of being working mothers, elected leaders in time of pandemic and national uprisings is real. We got this 🤷🏽♀️
I stand with
@tiffany_caban
and denounce this reprehensible and dangerous behavior by
@NYPDChiefPatrol
. Tiffany has been a courageous leader has consistently showed up for our city and her constituents. This behavior is shameful and unacceptable!
.
@NYPDChiefPatrol
has deleted this tweet where he wrote that
@tiffany_caban
"hates our city" before urging his followers to start "getting involved" if they "want change."
This comes after Chell drew electioneering concerns over a similar post in April:
New Yorkers are in desperate need of dignified and permanent housing.
This is NOT how you “get stuff done,” and we look forward to overriding his veto.
INBOX:
@NYCMayor

He claims the reforms "clearly exceeds the Council’s legal authority."
Founded in 1999 to honor the life of Rita Hester, Transgender Day of Remembrance brings awareness to the trans lives lost to prejudice, hate violence, discrimination, and harassment.
People can’t afford to live here anymore, so we asked for rent rollbacks. We got 3% increases instead. Housing court lines will get even longer — NYC deserves better
While I’m here!

is a US citizen and it is disgusting of you to assume people with accents aren’t citizens there are close to 1 million Dominicans in NYC have some respect! Citizenship status should not determine dignity and respect for people/communities!
Today as is Dominican Independence Day! We celebrate our culture and resilience! Felicidades al pueblo Dominicano! 🇩🇴🇩🇴🇩🇴 (video of Diablo Cojuelos our traditional carnival characters) 👇🏾
Excited to announce I have been appointed as Chair of the Civil Service & Labor Committee.
Looking forward to building coalitions with our partners in organized labor to ensure collective bargaining power of our city’s workers are strengthened & upheld.
Despite my best effort & wearing a KN95, I tested positive for Covid-19 & am quarantining at home. I am feeling under the weather and it is certainly not “just like the flu” but I have no severe symptoms.
Please remember to get tested, boosted + wear a mask.
We need to fund

I’m proud to be a working mother! I work everyday so my Mia can know a better community & a better world! I have the gift of an amazing mother who adopted me and cared for me selflessly throughout my life! Today is dedicated to all the moms and strong women-Thank You!
At City Hall today, reporting for our first Stated Meeting! Today we make Herstory electing the first African American Woman as Speaker of the City Council

This morning we join the
@NYCCouncil
Education Committee to hear Reso 283 calling on
@NYCMayor
@DOEChancellor
to immediately reverse the cuts to school budgets. We need to fully restore $469M. Let me be clear this is the floor bc our children need much more!
Completed Day 1 of remote learning. It’s not the way we imagined 1st grade but listening to my baby girl speak during social emotional learning really hit home. THANK YOU to the teachers who put in so care to ensure our kids are truly okay. We are better bc of our teachers!
This is the most difficult budget I have to faced in my time serving in the NYS Assembly. So much need in our communities and so little resources for us to deliver. I will continue to stand up against cuts to healthcare, education and stand against rollbacks to the bail reform.
Today we stand to celebrate bail reform. We also stand together to say we will not stop in continuing to end the criminalization of poverty and to make sure we bring families together.
#humanrightsday
Undocumented New Yorkers are not benefiting from the federal stimulus the resources that are available to most New Yorkers. I applaud this move from Governor Newsom and call on
@NYGovCuomo
to create a NYS Fund!
It’s time to stand on the right side of history and put an end to the 30-day and 60-day shelter limits. They cause unnecessary disruption and additional distress for families just looking to build a life and get an education in our city as many families have before them.
Today, on December 16, 2020, me and my colleagues in both houses of the NYS Legislature come together in powerful unity to call for $10 billion in emergency investment, a down payment on what New Yorkers will need to rebuild and recover in 2021. We must

My mother was a home care worker for 25 years; for her birthday today, we called on Gov. Hochul to gift our home care workers a living and competitive wage in this year's budget!

What is going on here! This is unacceptable. Selling candy should not merit brutal force like this. Incidents like this are happening way to often in our communities and we can’t be silent and let this moment pass.
@MTA
@NYPDnews
7:30 last night, 4 police officers brutally tackling a Black teenager to the ground at the 125th street Harlem subway stop.
They were arresting him for selling candy.
I am proud to be the prime sponsor of the NYS Dream Act w/

Happy Dominican Independence Day!! I am so proud to serve a district with the largest population of Dominicans in NYC every day.
Muchas gracias to everyone who came together from across the city and state to celebrate with us today. Dominican joy cannot be contained!! 🇩🇴
The ELFA bill on the floor now includes the Jose Peralta New York Dream Act! It has been a privilege to carry this legislation in the people’s house and be able to use my voice to stand up for immigrant New Yorkers! Thank you NYS DREAMers for your courage!
Political courage and leadership are a must! Our communties are tired of being left behind and our issues not prioritized! Let’s pass

New York State. Long Island all eyes are on you.
2019! What a year! There were a few obstacles but overall a year full of victories for our communities. We elevated our voices to demand for our people. A year full of change, of community and of love. I am so grateful for the opportunity to serve and look forward to 2020!
As the NYC Council Labor Chair, I am in full support of 600+ employees coming together to form

@zellnor4ny
I’m so sorry they did this to you Z. I am so angry they are doing this to our communities, don’t be discouraged bc this is only the beginning of a movement and this pain will fuel us all to action.
Before today comes to a close I want to take a moment to thank my
@NYSA_Majority
colleagues, it’s been an honor to fight along side you all for our communities! Thank you
@CarlHeastie
@CPeoplesStokes
for leading our work, I am eternally grateful! I will miss you all!
Those who remain silent are accomplices. As individuals, we must rise to the challenge and support those taking the lead to effect change. I am donating the $2000 received by my campaign from law enforcement to Black Lives Matter. As a country, together, we must do better!
Okay, here we go: Of the 59 Assembly Democrats running again in NYC, 25 (42%) have taken law enforcement (police, correction, or court officer) money this cycle.
NOTE: DenDekker, Simotas, and Lentol are all in the top 10. All face challengers in increasingly-leftist districts.
Jackson Heights + Washington Heights = people power 💪🏼

I am so proud to be a Dominican woman, an immigrant, and a mother. Those are my identities and I hold them with me everywhere I go and in all I do. When we empower a Dominican woman, we empower an entire family.
The statistics are loud and clear -- involuntary hospitalizations are disproportionately impacting Black New Yorkers. While only 18% of pick-ups are white, 47% are Black and 17% are Latinx with Manhattan being the most impacted borough.
Working families across New York State have no more bootstraps to pull themselves up from. As prices for basic necessities have gone up, wages have remained stagnant. Tying our wages to the rate of inflation is far overdue. $21.25 is not is not a luxury — it’s life sustaining.
Thank you community for giving me the privilege to serve! I look forward to continuing to be your Assemblywoman. To all the Primary winners, congratulations! I look forward to working with you all!
NYS Assembly Jose Peralta Dream Act Press Conference with Speaker
@CarlHeastie
, Senator
@LuisSepulvedaNY
, colleagues, and advocates. It’s great to see late Senator Peralta’s family come and support this legislation that today will finally become a reality.
(1/3) The remarks made by ICE’s acting director re: NYC’s sanctuary policies is a testament to the continued anti-immigrant rhetoric coming out of Washington. We mourn the death of the 92 year old woman killed in Queens and send our deepest condolences to her family.
Now you’ll be sorry!
Labor strikes again (pun intended) at yesterday's rally & hearing. Proud to stand in solidarity as they fight for a fair contract. We expect the AMPTP to engage in good faith — New York City depends on it.

Many elders are sentenced without the possibility of parole.
Today, we stand advocating to pass A.9040 to ensure we give individuals an opportunity for a second chance.
My community sent me to Albany to fix the rent laws so our neighbors & our families can remain in their homes. If there is one thing that needs to get done in order to preserve our communities it is fix the rent regulations loopholes that have caused an epidemic of displacement.
Free speech shouldn't be snuffed, and Jordan should be alive. When Jordan yelled about his injustice, he was silenced and murdered. When fed-up New Yorkers and journalists try to mourn him and tell his story, they are beaten and arrested by the Strategic Response Group... 1/2
Thank you
@cityandstateny
for this recognition. I am proud to serve as the Chair of the City Council’s Committee on Civil Service and Labor and be in a place where I can advocate for working families.
Today, the
@WomensCaucusNYC
celebrated the enactment of Intro 507-A, which requires city-run health sites to offer medication abortion options at no cost.
Unconscionable that families are being evicted in the dead of winter in NYS. Uplifting
@votedemondmeeks
for doing the work of protecting tenants in Rochester. What a senseless use of police resources. We need relief for tenants now, the eviction moratorium is a fallacy!
This is video of
@votedemondmeeks
being arrested for attempting to block an eviction in Rochester. State lawmakers had been considering voting for a blanket moratorium on evictions this month, but so far, have not done so.
There are so many lives languishing behind prison walls right now. It is unconscionable that as COVID-19 takes hold of our state once again,
@GovKathyHochul
is only granting 1 clemency to an actively incarcerated person. This is heartbreaking on the eve of Christmas Day. 💔
BREAKING:
@GovKathyHochul
just announced she is only granting one clemency to an incarcerated New Yorker this holiday season. We are tremendously disappointed and urge her to take real action. Full statement from our Director

to fill out seats for the remainder of the term.
For starters, I don’t have anyone blocked on my official account .
Second, disagree with my policy all you want. Always open to respectful public discourse and discussion.
However, fat shaming is absolutely unacceptable. Elected officials are real people. Remember that.
Proud to be teaming up with
@jessicaramos
to ensure that we create a progressive tax on billionaires in order to ensure that our most vulnerable communities are protected in this time. Let’s reimagine public policy as we work to close the income inequality gap in NYS!
Smiling bc justice has arrived for the tenants of New York State! Today we roll back the inequities that were put in place by a prior legislature who did not take into account the plight of our tenants. I am eternally grateful to

The Jose Peralta NYS Dream Act has been introduced and we look forward to finally making the Dream Act a reality in NYS! Check out the text of the bill A.00782 ahead of next weeks vote.

Our migrant families came to NYC for a better life, as many families before them did. Now, they are faced with instability and uncertainty as they are moved around shelters.
It is the First Day of school in our house! We are excited for Mia and for all the children of our city today! I know 3rd grade will be special. To our educators across the city—THANK YOU!

Thank you so much to
@NYCSanitation

@cornerproject
for listening to our community’s request that the 191st Street tunnel be cleaned. As of this morning, the tunnel is clean.
We look forward to next week’s multi-agency meeting to discuss long-term solutions.
Dignified housing in District 10 is my top priority. My staff and I have been knocking doors, talking to tenants to hear first-hand about the housing struggles residents are facing.
The strength and beauty of our community is the strength of our diversity. Tonight the beauty of

Our communities are hurting and that is why so many New Yorkers are our protesting!

the attacks on protestors tonight are unacceptable. We need you to step up and restore the public’s right to mourn, protest and grief with dignity! Abuse is never the answer.
Congratulations to an

We gathered at 8:30am this morning as a united community to celebrate the annulment of the Inwood Rezoning. The fight isn’t over we are just getting started. I will continue to stand with my community to make sure this is permanent.

On this day over a century ago, we lost 146 workers in a fire at the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory. Many were young immigrant women who, due to the careless nature of their employers and disregard for workplace safety, were unable to safely escape.
Today, I joined fellow N.Manhattan elected officials

,
@galeabrewer

@ydanis
to demand the

We joined

@jessicaramos
@votejgr
this morning at Diversity Plaza to announce solutions to eliminate barriers for immigrant communities applying for ITIN numbers in NYS! Thank You Majority Leader Schumer for your leadership!
Motherhood: for me it has meant raising my daughter in community with community. Holding her at fancy events and street fairs. Having her march with me and walk this journey with me. It has meant having grace with myself and her in understanding that we are doing our best.
Today, I visited Rikers Island to stand in solidarity with incarcerated people on hunger strike acting in defiance against a racist system that extracts Black & Brown people from our communities each day.
TY
@thefortunesoc
for your relentlessness and for organizing this rally.
(1/2) This
@nytimes
piece hit home. My mother was a home health aide for her entire career and most of my life up until she retired when I was elected. She did so in order to help me raise my daughter while I am in Albany. The sacrifices these workers make are superhuman.
I stand with
@ny31alcantara
bc she represents the voice of women of color in my community! 1.8 million Latinas in NYS and she is the only Latina Senator we have! Don’t tell my people we don’t deserve a seat at the table! We know history and we have a right to defend ours!
Excited to announce Res 24, Fair Pay for Home Care Act passed through the Civil Service & Labor Committee! Ty to everyone who supported & advocated at our hearing yesterday.
Congratulations to
@CMCrystalHudson
for putting forth this important resolution. Ty for your leadership!
Thank you to Lucia Gomez, Political Director at

Knowledge is power. The more we know, the better we can serve!

New Yorkers are barely making ends meet. Two major rent increases back-to-back would decimate our ability to live in what is supposed to be a city of opportunity. No one should have to choose between sacrificing basic human needs to live here. This is immoral.
Congrats to
@SolagesNY
for her defense of Ice out of courts on the NYS Assembly floor today. Thank you to
